December is the last month you'll be able to access Google Play Music. But don't worry, Google now has an easy way to move your music library, playlists and preferences over to YouTube's music-streaming service. This won't come as a surprise -- YouTube announced the change back in August, and over the last few months, Google Play Music users lost the ability to purchase, preorder, upload or download music on the platform, or stream music from the app. But don't worry -- you still have time to transfer your library to YouTube Music before Google Play Music shuts down completely. And YouTube Music has a tool that will help you move your entire library, profile and playlists from Google's streaming service into YouTube's revamped one with just one tap. YouTube Music also recently got some new features that may make it a bigger competitor to streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music. You'll still find your playlists, uploads, purchases and likes in Google Play Music until the end of the month, so you can make your transfer to YouTube Music. But your Google Play Music library will no longer be available after December. YouTube Music released a tool back in May to help you move your music, playlists and preferences over to the platform, which we'll explain how to use below.
It provides a tailored interface for the service oriented towards music streaming , allowing users to browse through songs and music videos on YouTube based on genres, playlists, and recommendations. The service also offers a premium tier, which enables ad-free playback, audio-only background playback, and downloading songs for offline playback. The service superseded Google Play Music as Google's main brand for music streaming on December 1, The YouTube Music app was unveiled in October and released the following month; its release came alongside the unveiling of YouTube Red , a larger subscription service that covers the entirety of the YouTube platform, including the Music app. Although redundant to Google 's existing Google Play Music All Access subscription service, the app is designed for users who primarily consume music through YouTube. On May 17, , YouTube announced a new version of the YouTube Music service, including a web-based desktop player and redesigned mobile app, more dynamic recommendations based on various factors, and use of Google artificial intelligence technology to search songs based on lyrics and descriptions. YouTube Music became available on Google Assistant smart speakers including Google Nest smart speakers on April 18, , with feature-limited ad-supported playback available for non-subscribers in only a limited number of countries.
